To celebrate our 10th year we have joined forces with Soil for Life to produce the book, Women of Soil - changing lives featuring 10 women community Home Food Gardeners from Soil for Life.
We are also joining Artscape for their annual Women's Humanity Festival with the following events: AUGUST 8 10h30 for 11h00 Launch of Women of Soil- Changing Lives (invited guests only) from 12h00 to 13h00: Tune in to the annual hour-long Women’s Show on Fine Music Radio 101.3 hosted by Theresa Smith. AUGUST 9 - Women’s DayAugust 9: 11h30 for 12h00 – 14h00 Circle of Care Woman's Day event: All Capetonians, women – men and young people – to stand together in a circle of solidarity to observe a moment of silence for those who have lost family and friends during the pandemic and those who have been victims of gender based violence. An interfaith blessing will precede the event andpoets will open and close the proceedings. The symbolic planting of a spekboom tree as well as guided breathing and a programme of shared singing. Distribution of 100 miniature spekboom plants Commemorative banner on which participants will be invited to write the names of loved ones lost, Wire Woman- WZ's totem statue, is dressed as a Home Food Gardener in honour of the 10 women featured in the book Additional events during August
Friday 12 August: Woman Zone presents International author Louisa Treger in conversation with Karina Sczcurek about her new book ‘Madwoman’.
Saturday August 13, WZ will present its monthly Book Club with guest author Gertrude Fester who will be talking about her latest book Prisoner Notebooks 2957/88.
A series of WZ podcasts will be uploaded on to the Woman Zone website during the month featuring conversations with Marlene le Roux and a number of authors including Dr Anne Biccard, Gertrude Fester, Beryl Botman, Karen Lazar and international author Louisa Treger.
