THE BIRTH OF A BOOK

It took FLORA DLODLO 38 years and 7 months to write her book.....

....well sort of - rather she had 38 years and 7 months of practice in being married so she could write 'Navigating the Marriage Relationship' from an informed perspective.

So having got it into print and published, she needed to have a launch - and where better than the WZ Library and in discussion with WZ member and psychologist Daphne Cooper. But first she'd had to get the writing right - and helping her do that was author, playwright, Life Righting teacher and doctor, Dawn Garisch - who as a follower of the medical humanities movement, had no small input post the manuscripts completion. She says 'Before you can communicate with others, first you need to know yourself .'

Understandably the topic gave rise to a great deal of interesting discussion - and lots of equally interesting questions.

But before a book can be printed and published, it needs to be edited, proofread, have a cover designed and be given an ISBN number - so said Tshepo Nketle owner of publishing company Lesedi House. Having struggled to get his own book published years ago, Tshepo now specialises in helping other would-be self-published authors realise their ambition and guides them through the process. He laughed as he told us that Flora was quite a demanding customer - especially when it came to covers. But the book is out and they have become good friends.
