Peace B for Bonteheuwel

HAPPY 2ND BIRTHDAY TO THE PEACE GARDEN IN BONTEHEUWEL!!

And there to greet the WOMAN ZONE delegation was founder herself, Soraya Salie - vibrant in her sunflower  outfit - yellow the colour of Peace, because she is also an ambassador for the International Women's Peace Group.  .  

There were opening prayers, first from Father Linkiri Thaba of the Church of the Resurrection...

The garden was established in 2019, in David Profit Street - and the community has come out ready to celebrate it's 2nd anniversary.

...lots of speeches, not least from Farouk Salie, Soraya's husband ffrom the Aljaamia Mosque...

....then everyone was ready for the action...

...and more prayers from Mowlana Rafique Baroo.

...not least the Gifted Knights, motorbikers who'd been specially invited to help with the clear up of the garden.

The garden itself...

...that was once a refuse dump...

...was looking pretty lovely...

...so there wasn't too much cleaning up to do...

There were other special guests, like Frances Taylor from Communitree who had offered inspiration and plants...

...some of the team from the Spek Plek in Mowbray, Annie Bisset and Martin Gent...and the dynamic duo from the Unitarian Church, the Rev Nima Tayor and support, Hans Moolman.

...tho everybody worked hard!

...with everybody looking their best, and ready to put their best foot forward to save the environment.

Lots of lessons...
