The theme for The Women's Humanity Walk this year was Uniting Cape Town in Faith...
Picture
....and it got off to an early start at the Bo-Kaap - under the watchful eye of Table Mountain.
Picture
Early arrivals got the Schotschekloof Community Centre, warmed up - thanks Beryl - and wired up for sound - thanks Luyanda of Selective Hearing.
Picture
....till very soon the crowds had gathered.
Picture
Everyone was a VIP, but it was a special honour to have Cape Town City Mayor Patricia de Lille with us.....
Picture
....so the Mayor and Marlene delivered powerful words, and songs....
Picture
....and there were prayers and blessings by women faith leaders from SAFFI South African Faith and Family Institute - with sign interpretation by Nombulelo.
Picture
And then we were on our way....
Picture
Kari marshaled the willing City marshals.....
Picture
....while those travelling in special style, courtesy Cape Town Side Car Adventures got buckled up.....
Picture
....and some in need of wheels, brought their own!
Picture
Especial thanks to the Bonteheuwel Walking Ladies who carried our flag with a song in their hearts.....
Picture
....and the biker gals took the lead around St George's Cathedral.....
Picture
Smiles, song and sunlight bonded the faithful of all denominations together....
Picture
.....and the stragglers brought up the rear....
Picture
Marshals marshaled with pride.....
Picture
....women walked and talked.....
Picture
....families and communities showed their spirit....
Picture
....and some just couldn't keep from grinning.
Picture
At the end of Adderly St, the procession rounded the bend....
Picture
...with Marlene and mascot Christopher in poll position...
Picture
And we arrived safe, sound and fully amped.
Picture
Our Walk done for another year....
Picture
......and well covered by a battery of cameras....
Picture
....it was time to mark the occasion of Artscape's Women's Humanity Arts Festival.....
Picture
....with joy....
Picture
....with thanks - to Naushad for providing over 4000 meals.....
Picture
....and with a fabulous song and dance programme courtesy Sis Thoko.
Picture
And all in the name of Faith. Thank you to all who walked in good faith with us - and we look forward to seeing you next year. The WOMAN ZONE team. xx Photographs courtesy Theresa Smith.

The Woman's Walk and Talk - Past and Present got off to a fragrant start at the Fynbos Experience at Cape Town Heritage Centre in the Company's Garden.....
Picture
.....Giselle Courtney talks us through the scented teas.....
Picture
.....the Whites Only bench in Queen Victoria Street brings us back to realities and memories....
Picture
....more memories evoked by Mary Burton who shared stories from her book, The Black Sash: Women for Freedom and Justice....
Picture
.....outside St George's Cathedral - symbol of peace and protest and a haven of refuge in so many ways, then and now.
Picture
And at Church Square in the shadow of the Moeder Kerk, we hear of washerwomen, small pox, hippos and Dr James Barry herself - and amongst the slave name blocks performer and artwork, Vivian Lipari delivers Womandla, a powerful poem by Shelley Barry, wheelchair bound writer, activist and filmmaker.....
Picture
A moments pause for reflection with Kate Crane-Briggs, founder of Culture Connect, on statues and the status of women between Parliament and the Slave Lodge .......
Picture
Picture
....and art of another kind at the AVA - Association for Visual Arts where Mirjam Asmail talks us through the story of this house of art - and gives us tea!
Picture
Picture
Picture
Picture
On we stride through the streets and squares - talking and stopping to share.....
Picture
.....till we reach Krotoa Place where we think of young Khoi heroine Eva Krotoa and Bernie Mshana tells us all about Brave: Rock Girl the organisation empowering young women.....
Picture
....and there's a photo op on the new timber Rock Girl bench made to take the place of the mosaic one that honoured Krotoa before it was destroyed by Khoisan activists.
Picture
Outside Maria Koopmans de Wet house, historian Nwabisa Mbana takes a moment.....
Picture
....and on a more contemporary note, we draw attention to Caroline's Fine Wine Cellar.....great spot for a tasting...
Picture
....and talking of taste - what more flavoursome spot to end the Walk than at The Meeting Point, much loved Tanzanian restaurant and hope of the Cape Town Story Club....
Picture
....where having worked up an appetite we did justice to the hot delicious food....
Picture
....and Tanzanian Bernie felt right at home - and was persuaded to tell her own story.

A great place to eat and greet - and hopefully gather again one day. Thanks to all the Walkers, great to meet you. For more Culture Connect Walks, www.cultureconnectsa.com.
